With the objective of contributing to the supply and connectivity of Latin America, Avianca Holdings has continued its operation within the framework of government regulations since the declaration of the worldwide emergency by the COVID-19, with special cargo and passenger operations.
In recent weeks, the company has conducted 138 repatriation flights that have contributed to the return home of more than 11,500 people. Likewise, the company's cargo business has carried out more than 3,000 flights, with the transport of more than 110,000 tons to 24 destinations around the world, including Shanghai, Amsterdam, Brussels, Madrid, Granada, Guyana, Paramaribo, New York and Edmonton. Additionally, through Deprisa, we have transported more than 6,900 tons of goods, correspondence and cargo to national destinations in Colombia.
"Committed to Latin America and addressing the crisis in which we find ourselves, from Avianca we continue to make every effort to continue operating within the framework of current restrictions. In this way, we have adapted our work to work with governments, airports, air traffic authorities, as well as with our clients in the cargo segment, even reaching destinations that are not usually part of our passenger or cargo operations, such as Canada, Italy, Belgium, and even China," said Julian Laverde, Vice President of Network Operations for Avianca Holdings.
More than 3,000 cargo flights to supply the region
As of May 31, Avianca Cargo transported 100,493 tons of cargo including general cargo, medical supplies, toiletries and food. It is important to note that in the midst of a market facing a contraction in supply, the company has continued to transport flowers and meet the commitments agreed with exporters in Colombia and Ecuador. In the last season of mothers transported 12,311 tons of flowers, and only during the third week of May completed an operation of 720 tons of the same product, adding efforts to the deficit presented by the market by not having the full capacity of the regular operation provided by the bellies of passenger aircraft.
