GOL and Avianca extend code share agreement and increase benefits for passengers in Colombia and Brazil

  • Passengers of both airlines will be able to travel in connection with a single ticket to domestic destinations in both countries, which increases the supply of routes in Latin America.
  • In addition, they earn and can redeem miles in the Smiles and LifeMiles frequent flyer programs.

Bogota, November 5, 2020
Thanks to the extension of the code share agreement between GOL and the airlines that are part of Avianca Holdings, as of today, October 27th, customers of both airlines can access more benefits such as travel with a single ticket, check their bags directly to their final destination on connecting flights and maintain the same baggage allowance on the shared sections. This alliance applies to flights between Brazil and Colombia, as well as to flights within both countries.

In turn, the companies implemented the Frequent Flyer Agreement thanks to which members of Smiles and LifeMiles loyalty programs can earn and redeem miles on flights of both airlines.

"GOL, as the leading airline in Brazil, is expanding with Avianca the possibilities of connections in South America and thus increasing the offer to corporate and leisure clients, always considering all security measures, our number one value, in this period of reactivation", explains Randall Saenz Aguero, Director of Partnerships, International Expansion and Distribution of GOL.

"Brazil is a very important market in the connectivity network we have and being able to offer more benefits to our passengers becomes essential in the current context of the resumption of operations in the region. We know that the extension of this code-share and mileage agreement is key for our passengers and their new travel plans", said Ana Maria Copete, director of alliances for Avianca Holdings. And, she recalled that the airline currently operates to 21 domestic destinations from Bogota.

The current alliance includes the option of reaching 50 destinations within Brazil and 20 destinations within Colombia. In October 2019, the two companies signed the first phase of the agreement thanks to which the Colombian airline had already been selling tickets to fly to destinations within Brazil.
