In the midst of the temporary suspension of Viva's operations and in view of the crisis faced by the sector:
Bogota, February 28, 2023. After the Civil Aeronautics Authority activated mechanisms for airlines to protect users impacted by the Viva crisis, Avianca voluntarily made available to the Authority and users its network of routes and available seats so that affected Viva users can comply with their travel plans.
Passengers with confirmed tickets or reservations on February 27, 28 and March 1 will be relocated, free of charge and on a first-come, first-served basis, on Avianca flights with availability. Interested customers can apply for protection directly at the airports.
In this regard, Adrian Neuhauser, President and CEO of Avianca said: "Now is the time for us as an industry to help the hundreds of thousands of passengers who are affected by a crisis that clearly could have been avoided." The Aerocivil has already enabled mechanisms so that we can protect users and our task is to make available to the country all our capacity to do so. We are Colombia's airline and we are contributing all our resources to attend to the affected passengers.”
Viva's crisis undoubtedly represents a risk for the stability of the airline industry and directly impacts the regions that depend exclusively on Viva as the only operator, its hub of operations in Antioquia, its development dynamics and the more than 5,000 direct and indirect jobs generated by the low-cost .
