In the midst of the temporary suspension of Viva's operations and in view of the crisis faced by the sector:

Avianca offers additional flights and fleet operation with greater capacity to protect viva passengers

  • To safeguard the flight plans of Viva's customers, Avianca implemented a comprehensive protection plan that includes additional capacity and temporary sales closures.
  • The company will operate additional flights on routes connecting Bogota with Medellin, San Andres and Buenos Aires. Avianca will also operate some of its flights in larger aircraft on the Bogota-Lima and Bogota-Buenos Aires routes.
  • Additionally, to facilitate the protection of passengers affected by Viva, Avianca closed sales for flights on February 28 and March 1, only in those destinations within Colombia where there is a greater need to reaccommodate travelers.

Bogotá, February 28, 2023. In order to help Viva passengers fulfill their flight plans and reach their destinations as soon as possible, Avianca announces as of today incremental flights on routes connecting Bogotá with Medellín, San Andrés and Buenos Aires, offering 4,000 more seats on these operations.

It also announced that it will operate flights to Lima and Buenos Aires in larger capacity aircraft on a temporary basis. In the case of Peru, Avianca will have A320 aircraft with 60 additional seats for some flights, while maintaining its regular operation on the A319 fleet. As for Argentina, some itineraries will be used on the Boeing 787 family's twin-aisle fleet, which has 70 additional seats for a total of 250 passengers.

Additionally, to facilitate the protection of passengers affected by Viva, Avianca closed sales for flights on February 28 and March 1 only in those destinations within Colombia where there is a greater need to rearrange travelers, in order to make more seats available.

"Today, no matter what color our logo is, the priority is to help Viva's passengers. That is why we are making a comprehensive plan available to the authorities and above all to users that includes measures such as: additional flights, larger capacity fleet and temporary closure of sales on routes where it is necessary to relocate travelers. Here we are, here we continue and we will evaluate additional actions to continue to ensure the country's connectivity in this situation in the coming days",  said Frederico Pedreira, Chief Operating Officer of Avianca.

It is important to reiterate that in order to make the protection effective, passengers with confirmed tickets or reservations issued to fly on February 27, 28 and March 1 should go directly to the airports. Such relocation will be free of charge and on a first-come, first-served basis on Avianca flights with availability. More information for Viva passengers here.
