#AviancaIsColombia

Avianca makes the largest investment in its history in Colombia:
US$473 million to continue uniting the regions

  • In order to continue providing greater connectivity to Colombia and its regions, Ecuador and Central America, Avianca announces the arrival of 16 additional aircraft to its fleet, which means 5,200 additional flights per week and 937,000 seats per week, representing a 24% increase in seating capacity throughout its network.
  • The increase in capacity also means the recovery of more than 1,200 direct jobs and 600 indirect jobs.
  • Regions that are fundamental for tourism and the country's economy, and that had lost part of their connectivity such as Leticia, Pasto, Riohacha, San Andrés and Villavicencio, will benefit from more flights to and from these destinations.

Bogota, September 7, 2023. Reiterating its commitment to Colombia’s, Ecuador’s and Central America’s connectivity after 104 years of operation, and with a historic investment of US$473 million, Avianca announces the arrival of 16 additional aircraft to the more than 120 aircraft currently in its fleet. These aircraft will start operating gradually between October and December.

Of the total 16 aircraft, 14 will serve the Colombian market, offering 4,249 additional flights and 767,490 additional seats in this market.

For 104 years, closer to the regions:

Avianca reported that the increase in capacity will strengthen and restore connectivity to cities and regions that lost it due to the crisis, in addition to providing more and better connectivity opportunities to other destinations within and outside Colombia.

Cities highly impacted in terms of air connectivity such as San Andres, Villavicencio, Riohacha and Leticia will now have more opportunities.

  • Avianca will have 30 to 53 additional flights per week to San Andres, from Bogota, Medellin and Cali, which means 75% more connectivity for the island.
  • The company will go from operating one flight per day to two flights per day between Bogotá and Villavicencio for a total of 14 flights per week.
  • In Riohacha, Avianca will increase from 20 to 28 weekly flights connecting with Bogotá.
  • Leticia will increase its operations connecting the center of the country from 10 to 18 per week.
  • In Ipiales, Avianca will increase from 4 weekly flights to 1 daily, offering 7 weekly flights.
  • Pasto will increase from 25 weekly flights to 42, to continue connecting the south of the country.

In total, about 20 destinations within Colombia and another 10 international destinations will benefit from more connecting flights and more seats for everyone for the end-of-year season:

  • National destinations: Medellín, Cali, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Pereira, Santa Marta, Cúcuta, Bucaramanga, Montería, Pasto, Valledupar, Armenia, Riohacha, Leticia, Barrancabermeja, Villavicencio, Ibagué and Ipiales.
  • International destinations: Boston, Curacao, Fort Lauderdale, Guatemala City, Guayaquil, Orlando, Panama City, Punta Cana, San Salvador and San Juan.

Due to its geography, Colombia is a country that is highly dependent on air connectivity and that is why we have been present for more than 104 years; 80% of our operation is here and more than 8,500 people are part of our team in Colombia. Our motto has been and always will be to be part of the solution: first we did it by guaranteeing that users could fulfill their travel plans after the crisis, and thus stabilize the sector; and now, we are doubling our commitment and adding more people to our operation, more capacity with more aircraft, more seats and more connectivity to recover and strengthen Colombia. Here we are and here we continue", said Adrian Neuhauser, CEO of Avianca.

More aircraft means more jobs:

This historic increase in capacity will also translate into a commitment to employability in the airline industry. Thus, Avianca will generate employment for 1,200 direct and 600 indirect employees. Of the grand total, around 800 vacancies are being offered in this country, generating new employment opportunities for specialized talent.
