Avianca Applies To Run Direct Route Between Brasilia and Bogota Beginning October

  • Avianca will request permission to link the capitals of Colombia and Brazil.
  • If authorized, the new route will allow the company to strengthen connectivity to Brazil as the main market for international operations in South America.
  • The joint work between Avianca and GOL is a step forward so that Colombia and Brazil are increasingly closer.

BOGOTA, April 17, 2024 – Avianca announced that it will request the aeronautical authorities of Colombia and Brazil to operate a new direct route between Brasilia and Bogota for the year-end season (Winter 2024).

Colombia and Brazil are two of the most relevant air markets in the continent given Colombia’s strategic location, and Brazil handling close to 50% of the region's air traffic,” said Frederico Pedreira, CEO and president of Avianca. “With Bogota and Brasilia being two of the most important hubs in Latin America, we are exploring this opportunity to continue connecting more customers, strengthening our cargo operation and promoting tourism and business, not only between Colombia and Brazil, but also within our network of more than 75 destinations in 25 countries.”

These frequencies would complement those requested by GOL for the same route. Avianca and GOL currently have interline connections and a codeshare agreement with more than 80 routes and more than 60 destinations, allowing customers to connect between the two airlines' networks.

The operation between Brasilia and Bogota would be a milestone for the two countries as it would connect the main hubs of GOL and Avianca. From the two capitals, the airlines fly to more than 80 destinations with more than 310 daily flights.
