Avianca's Bogotá-Paris route takes off to increase the number of routes between Latin America and Europe

  • The first flight on the route took off after 20 years from Bogotá's El Dorado Airport bound for Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.
  • The airline will operate up to five weekly flights on Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with the Avianca Insignia Business Class experience.
  • The new route will also expand the portfolio of Avianca Cargo's services, increasing the cargo transport capacity to and from Europe to over 900 tons per week.

Bogotá, July 3, 2024. Avianca began operating the new direct Bogotá-Paris route, which is once again part of the company's offering after 20 years, and strengthens connectivity between Latin America and Europe.

"Today, after 20 years, we return to Paris. It is a great honour to be able to open this route, especially at this historic moment when France is hosting the Olympic Games. The response from travelers has been incredible, especially on the Paris-Bogotá route. Certainly, there is a growing interest among Europeans in visiting Colombia and among Latin Americans in visiting Europe. In the last year, more than 1.5 million passengers have flown with us and we hope that with the new route to Paris, which is our fourth direct route to Europe, we will continue to connect both continents. In addition, this year we have the honor of being the official airline that will take athletes from Colombia, Ecuador and El Salvador to represent our countries in Paris for the Olympics,"said Carolina Cortés, Vice President of Corporate Communications at Avianca.

Starting today, the airline is offering its customers three weekly flights between Bogotá and Paris, and starting July 15, it will have five weekly flights. With the new route, Avianca's passengers will now have 75 new destinations in more than 25 countries to visit, which will allow them to reach the Americas from Bogotá.

All flights will be operated on Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft —one of the most modern fleets in the world— featuring the Avianca Insignia Business Class experience and a variety of flight options for all passengers.

Passengers traveling in Business Class with the Avianca Insignia experience will enjoy exclusive dishes from the hand of chef Álvaro Clavijo — whose restaurant is included in the list of "The World's 50 Best Restaurants"—. Passengers will also receive an Amenity Kit with collectible cases designed by Colombian luxury accessories brand Mola Sasa, in collaboration with the indigenous Gunadule community, and products from Loto del Sur.

"Among other things, this new Bogotá-Paris route will strengthen tourism, which is the goal of President Gustavo Petro's government, as a new source of foreign currency and the driving force of our economy and development. Colombia has everything for that, it is a Caribbean, Pacific, Andean and Amazonian country, a biodiverse and multicultural country with flavor and human warmth", commented Alfonso Prada, Colombian ambassador to France.

Moreover, Carmen Caballero, Chair of ProColombia, mentioned that "this is excellent news for the Colombian tourism industry and to connect Colombia with other regions. France is already the second European country with the most arrivals to the country and the number is growing; last year the figure increased by 24.5% compared to the previous year. This is a great boost for tourism, a sector that is showing historic figures in our country. These new routes will make a huge positive impact on the growth of businesses and development of new regions.".

"We celebrate the launch of Avianca's new route that will connect Bogotá with Paris, thus confirming El Dorado as a strategic point for international flights. We are convinced that the expansion of routes that directly connect our airport with international destinations will serve to continue promoting tourism in Colombia," added Natalí Leal, general manager of Opain.

Paris, another gateway for cargo transport to and from Europe

The new route will also expand the portfolio of Avianca Cargo's services, which currently connects over 23 Latin American countries with four destinations in Europe: Madrid, Barcelona, London and now Paris. The main export products transported from Latin America are perishable goods, such as flowers and fruits. Luxury brands, pharmaceutical products and general cargo arrive from Europe.

"The opening of this new route expands the freight transport network, connecting Latin America with a strategic commercial hub for distribution in Europe. These five new routes will expand our weekly capacity to and from Europe to over 1,000 tons, consolidating our position as a leading provider of cargo services in the field of key products, such as perishables, pharmaceuticals and textiles," stated Diogo Elias, Vice President of Avianca Cargo.
