Bogota, November 7th, 2024. Nicolás Alvear will take on the role of Chief Financial Officer at Avianca Group starting January 1, 2025.
Alvear has been with the Avianca Group for nearly eight years, where he has most recently served as treasurer. Before that, as CFO of LifeMiles, he successfully led strategies that have enabled LifeMiles to strengthen its financial structure, making it one of the largest and most recognized loyalty programs in Latin America. Before joining the Avianca Group, he had over eight years of experience in investment banking and securities groups.
His academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics and Operations Research from Columbia University, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Nicolás' objective will be to maintain discipline in Avianca's finances and cost structure and to continue projecting it into the future with successful results.
Rohit Philip, current CFO, will remain in his current position until December 31st and will then remain with the company for several months, working side by side with Alvear to ensure a smooth transition and to round off strategic projects for the organization.
Philip played a crucial role in Avianca’s recent success story, including leading the Company ‘s exit from Chapter 11, strengthening its cost structure, reducing its debt optimizing its capital structure and improving the airline’s liquidity position.
